A beautiful lawn is not as hard to achieve as you may think. There are only a few important steps needed to keep your lawn looking good year after year. First, grass does not do well in the shade so proper sunlight is needed. At least 6 hours of sunlight is best to keep your lawn healthy. Second, proper watering is a must but often incorrectly done. Keep in mind, deep watering three times a week is more effective and healthier than watering every day. Third, the proper amount of fertilization’s and lime treatments are also key to keeping your lawn looking good.
Just as there are things you should do for a better lawn there are also things you shouldn’t do. Often people make the mistake of cutting their lawn too short. Make sure to cut your lawn no shorter than 3” tall in the summer to prevent soil from drying out and weeds germinating. Another good tip is to check if your mower blades are sharp. You wouldn’t want your barber cutting your hair or shaving your beard with dull blades so don’t cut your grass with dull blades either. As you enjoy your new lawn also be aware that foot traffic compacts soil and prevents oxygen from reaching the root system so try to limit activity on the parts of the lawn you want to look the best.
